Woodkid signs a comeback with "S16"
"I've already waited seven years.A few more months doesn't change much."Yoann Lemoine pretends to remain zen.Not easy when you are a musician in these times of a rebounding pandemic.Even less for someone who has taken the habit of playing leapfrog with borders.Under the name of Woodkid , the artist, born in Tassin-la-Demi-Lune, near Lyon, in 1983, has indeed forged, from 2013, one of the most beautiful international success stories of French pop.
Cherished videographer of Anglo-Saxon stars (Drake, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey ...), the bearded pixie in the eternal cap had also succeeded in imposing the grandiose musical and graphic visions of a first album, The Golden Age, sold at more 800,000 copies, including more than 600,000 exported.A box also punctuated by shocking clips (Iron, Run Boy Run, I Love You, which have respectively 84 million, 80 million and 32 million views on YouTube) and a tour of which nearly 70 dates were performed abroad.
In the starting blocks since the spring, a new album, S16, is finally announced for October 16, but the concerts which, from April, were to light the fuse of this eagerly awaited comeback with a tour in about ten Eastern and Central European countries fizzled out, as did a first handful of summer festivals.
While the week of residency that Woodkid and his musicians were to begin near Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône) to prepare for their scenic return has just been canceled, his Paris offices seem to be as busy managing the effects of health constraints than the frenzy of an event outing.
