Lately I've been reaching out to musical acts performing in my area to get photos of their shows. The latest was the "country boys" rap group Nappy Roots. I appreciated them inviting me in for soundcheck and backstage just before the show. Though I think of myself as one who is pretty diverse in their choice of music I'll admit my knowledge of Nappy Roots was limited. I knew a song or a two before the show but have become more acqauinted with their collection as I've bumped their beats in my Subaru to and from work since. I now feel compelled to say the words, "Jimmy Crack Corn" in a twangy voice for whatever reason.
Once MC 808 Blake got on stage mixing beats to get the room ready the rest of the ensemble joined in and energized the crowd. Members Skinny Deville, Nappy Scales, Buffalo Stille, and Ron Clutch owned the stage bringing back familiar hits and mixing in songs from their new album Another 40 Akerz. It was a great concert, catch their show if they're in your area, they won't dissapoint.
